Privacy notice
What personal information I collect, why I use it, who else handles it and what your rights are.
Last updated: 29 September 2026.
Who I am
South West Websites is run by Jason Prickett, a sole trader based in Devon. I decide how the personal information described here is used, so under UK data protection law I am the "controller" responsible for it. Contact: jason@southwestwebsites.co.uk.
What information I collect
If you send an enquiry or apply for an offer, I receive what you give me. That usually means your name, email address, phone number, business name, town, current website and your message.
If you become a client, I may also keep your business contact details, our emails and messages about the project, quotes, agreements, invoices, payment status, support requests and anything else I need to build and look after your website or other service.
Why I use it
I use enquiry information to reply to you and to do anything you ask for before we agree to work together, such as preparing a quote. If you become a client, I use it to provide the service we agreed and to manage our working relationship. I also keep records where the law requires it, for example for accounts and tax.
My legal reasons for using it
Data protection law only allows me to use personal information if I have a valid legal reason, called a "lawful basis". Depending on the purpose, mine are:
- Contract: to take steps you ask for before we agree a contract, and to carry out the contract once we do.
- Legal obligation: to keep records the law requires, such as for tax.
- Legitimate interests: to run my business in ways you would reasonably expect, where this doesn't override your own interests and rights.
- Consent: only where I specifically ask for it, such as for optional advertising measurement.
Who handles information for me
I use established service providers to run this website, receive enquiries, communicate with clients, host and maintain websites and handle normal business admin. They handle personal information on my behalf and on my instructions (as "processors"). Some may store or handle it outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is protected by safeguards UK law recognises, such as UK adequacy regulations or approved data transfer contracts.
For website enquiries, I currently use Cloudflare to host and protect the site and Resend to deliver form messages to me. If I use other providers for your project, I will tell you which ones as part of that work.
Payments
Payments may go through banks, invoicing software or payment providers. I don't need to store full card or bank account details just to keep a record that an invoice was sent or paid. Payment providers handle your information under their own privacy policies, as well as any processing they carry out on my behalf.
Advertising measurement
If you choose Allow in the privacy choices, the Meta Pixel is loaded. It helps me see whether Facebook and Instagram adverts lead to visits or enquiries on this site, and it may be used to build advertising audiences in Meta (groups of people to show adverts to). Meta may receive information about your browser, device, the pages you visit and what you do on them, and may set its own cookies.
The Meta Pixel doesn't load unless you agree to it. You can change your choice at any time with the Privacy choices button on the site. You can read more in Meta's privacy policy.
How long I keep information
If an enquiry doesn't lead to work, I normally delete it within 12 months, unless there is a good reason to keep it longer. I keep client, project and financial records for as long as I reasonably need them to provide the service, answer questions and meet accounting, tax and other legal record-keeping rules.
Cookies and similar technologies
The site may use technology that is essential for it to work, including spam protection. Because it is essential, it doesn't need your consent. Optional advertising measurement is off by default and only turns on if you choose to allow it.
Your rights
Depending on the situation, you have the right to ask me to:
- give you a copy of the personal information I hold about you;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your information;
- limit how I use it (called "restriction");
- stop using it, where I rely on legitimate interests (called "objection").
Where I rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Some rights have legal exceptions, so they don't apply in every case.
To use any of these rights, email jason@southwestwebsites.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
