Real web apps, already running

Not just brochure-site experience. Sunday Night Sport and Walking Football Friday are private community platforms I built and still run every week: mobile-first bookings, admin tools, live results, player records and payments. See my custom web app development service.

Private community platform

Sunday Night Sport

A complete weekly football platform covering attendance, team selection, results, live tables, player profiles, records, match stories and payment status. A private organiser workflow takes each match night from player list to published results.

Private community platform

Walking Football Friday

A lighter club noticeboard and results platform for Walking Football Friday in Newton Abbot. It shares a proven foundation with SNS while keeping its own identity, Friday schedule and independent history.

  • Club noticeboard
  • Results & standings
  • Season history
Private project · preview only

The same experience sits behind web apps & business systems. If part of your organisation still runs on spreadsheets, WhatsApp or a booking system that does not quite fit, tell me what you are doing manually and I will help work out whether a focused web app would help.

The hard part is not making a website.

Website builders can create a starting point. The useful work is deciding what customers need to see, making the next step obvious, setting up local search and keeping everything working after launch.

Right message

Clear words about what you do, where you work and why someone should choose you.

Clear next step

Phone, enquiry, booking or quote, made easy to find and use on a phone.

Local foundations

Useful service pages, Google Business Profile support and the technical basics that help customers find you.

One person to call

Domains, email, hosting, forms and small changes handled by someone who knows your business.

Built for your business, not from a template. I build custom websites from the ground up, without the restrictions, unnecessary plugins or bloated code that often come with off-the-shelf website builders. The result is a site that can be faster, cleaner and more responsive, with less reliance on third-party plugins and a more controlled, reliable setup. Your website is designed around your business from the start. The design, structure and functionality are shaped around what you actually need, rather than what a template happens to allow.

It is not just a prettier website

Good design makes the business easier to understand and the next step easier to take. Compare a tired website with a clearer route to an enquiry.

If your current site looks more like the left, I can rebuild it and plan the move carefully, including your domain, email and page redirects.

Concepts for local businesses

These fictional Devon businesses show how the same practical thinking becomes a focused site for a plumber, café or barber. Open one to try it.

Simple where it should be; more capable when it needs to be. The same care goes into mobile-first design, clear journeys, reliable hosting and ongoing maintenance across every project.

A simpler way to get online

You do not need a technical brief or a finished sitemap. We start with the business, then choose the right level of site and support.

  1. A short chat

On the phone or over a coffee, I talk with you about your business and what the site needs to do.

  2. A free mock-up

You see a working homepage design before you pay anything.

  3. Build and review

You get a private preview link and can ask for changes as it takes shape.

  4. Launch and care

Your site goes live, your domain and forms are checked, and I keep it secure, backed up and current.

1 place taken, 2 left

One founding place is taken. Two free websites left.

I'm building my portfolio of Devon businesses. The first founding place is filled, and the same free Essentials website is open to two more. Not a cut-down version: the same design, writing and care as a paid project.

  • Essentials website, a single page£475 Free
  • Six months of Website Care£210 Free
  • Your own domain nameAt cost, a few pounds a year
  • Care after month 6 (optional)£35/month, cancel anytime

In return, I'd ask you to

  1. Let me show your finished website as an example of my work.
  2. Send your words, photos and logo within about two weeks, so the project keeps moving.
  3. Leave an honest review once you've seen what the site does for you.
Open to businesses in Devon. One of three founding places is taken, so two remain, confirmed after a short chat. The website is yours to keep, with nothing to pay and no obligation to carry on with a care plan. A review is welcome but never required or scripted.

Clear packages, properly delivered

Every website is designed around your business, built for phones first and launched with the search and enquiry essentials in place. I recommend the right setup for the job, explain any platform or third-party costs and handle the whole launch.

You will not pay in full for something you have not seen. Every build includes a private preview, and the final payment is not due until you are happy with the design. See everything that's included in each plan.

Web design for Devon businesses

South West Websites is an independent web design and development business run by Jason Prickett, based near Chudleigh between Exeter and Newton Abbot. I build and look after custom websites for trades, cafés, salons, shops and other local businesses across Devon. The service is deliberately personal: one person to talk to, one clear plan and practical support after launch.

Every site starts with what your customers need to know, trust and do next. I build lightweight custom sites around the business rather than forcing your content into a pre-made theme. That gives me more control over the design, performance, responsive behaviour, security and functionality. Already on an old or awkward setup? I can move your domain, email and useful pages across carefully.

More about me and how I work

  • Online bookingLet people book a table, a slot or an appointment without phoning.
  • Taking paymentsDeposits, one-off payments or a small shop for a handful of products.
  • Menus and price listsEasy to read on a phone, and easy for me to keep up to date.
  • Photos and wordsI can tidy up your photos and write the pages if you'd rather not.
  • Hosting and careHosting, backups, security and small changes all handled for you.
  • Business emailA proper address on your own domain, set up on your phone.

Sensible questions before you invest

Clear answers about the work, ownership and what happens after launch.

Could I just build my own website with Wix or a website builder?

You could, and for some straightforward sites, that may be perfectly reasonable. The value I provide is deciding what to say, shaping the design around your customers, setting up the enquiry journey and local-search foundations, protecting your domain and email, and keeping the site useful after launch. You are paying for judgement and accountability, not for someone to type every line by hand.

What makes a custom website different from a template?

I build the site around your business rather than fitting your content into a pre-made template. That gives me more control over the design, performance, responsive behaviour and technical setup, while you work directly with the person building and supporting it.

What if I don't like the design?

You will see a private preview before anything goes live, and the second half of the payment is not due until you are happy with it. Nothing is published and nothing is charged in full until you have approved the design.

How does paying monthly work?

The managed website option has a £149 setup fee, then £69 a month for an initial 24-month term. It includes the Business website, hosting, security, backups and unlimited small changes, so there is nothing else to pay. After month 24, the website is yours and you can continue on the £35 Website Care plan, move it elsewhere or stop.

What does local search setup include?

I research how customers search for your services, give every page a clear search title and description, add the right technical information for Google, connect analytics and Search Console, and set up or improve your Google Business Profile where included. It creates a sound foundation, but no honest web designer can guarantee first place on Google.

How long will my website take?

An Essentials site normally takes around two weeks and a Business site around three to five weeks once I have your content and feedback. Larger projects are planned individually. You receive a clear schedule before work begins and a private preview before launch.

What do you need from me?

Your logo if you have one, useful photos, the services you want to promote, your service area and access to any existing domain or website. I guide you with a short checklist and shape the wording, so you do not need to arrive with a finished brief or perfect copy.

Will changing my website affect Google or my email?

A move needs care. I map important old pages to the new ones, preserve useful content, set up redirects and check the domain, forms and search settings before launch. Business email is treated separately so it keeps working. Rankings can never be guaranteed, but the migration is planned to avoid preventable losses.

Who owns the domain and the site?

You do. Your domain and third-party accounts are registered in your name, and you can request a full copy of the finished website. If you use the managed monthly option, ownership transfers after the initial 24-month term.

Do I have to keep a care plan?

No. With a one-off website build, Website Care is optional and rolls monthly with 30 days' notice. Most clients keep it because it covers hosting, monitoring, backups and unlimited small changes, but you are free to take the site elsewhere.

Do you only build websites?

No. Alongside custom websites, I build bespoke web apps and business systems, such as booking systems, member portals, admin tools and dashboards, for organisations that have outgrown a spreadsheet or a WhatsApp group. See web apps & business systems for examples, or tell me what you are doing manually and I will help work out whether a focused app would help.

Tell me about your business

Send a few details and I'll reply within one working day. For website projects I can usually sketch a homepage direction; for web apps I will help define the first useful workflow.
