The brief

More than a results page

The league has a simple player experience on the surface, but a lot happens behind the scenes each Sunday. The challenge was to bring those moving parts into one system without making match night slower or more complicated for the organiser.

Before

Too many separate jobs

Attendance, team selection, scores, standings, player history and season administration all need to stay in sync. A spreadsheet-first approach becomes fragile as the league grows.

  • Repeated manual calculations
  • Information spread across different places
  • More opportunity for mistakes on match night
  • Limited player-facing history and statistics
After

One workflow from arrival to published results

The web app now follows the same sequence as the evening itself. Admin records what happens; the system handles the calculations, history and player-facing output automatically.

  • Attendance drives the active squad
  • Team picks flow into each round
  • Scores update standings and statistics
  • Published results become part of permanent history
What I built

A small product, not a brochure site

The project combines product design, front-end development, application logic, data management, hosting and ongoing operational support.

01

Player experience

Latest results, tables, player profiles, records, recent form and season history in a compact mobile interface.

02

Match-night admin

A guided workflow for attendance, captains, team selection, pitch setup, score entry and round progression.

03

Automatic statistics

Weekly scores feed season totals, win rates, form, streaks, records and other player-level statistics.

04

Season management

Historical seasons remain available while rollover tools prepare the competition for a clean new season.

05

Payments & operations

Administrative tools reduce manual reconciliation and keep operational jobs separate from the core match workflow.

06

PWA delivery

The app can live on a player's home screen without an app-store release, while updates are deployed centrally.

Real interface, demo data

The actual design language, safely recreated

These panels are built in HTML and CSS from the same component patterns as the private application: the dark match-night palette, condensed typography, lime accent, leaderboard cards and admin-style controls. Only the identifying data has been replaced.

Match-night workflow

Designed around the next decision

The organiser should not have to remember which screen comes next. The system is structured around a predictable progression through the evening.

  1. Confirm playersBuild the active squad from those attending.
  2. Select teamsRecord captains, picks and team composition.
  3. Play the roundMove directly into pitch and scorecard views.
  4. Record scoresUpdate the live competition state as matches finish.
  5. PublishMake results, tables and player statistics available together.
Technical delivery

Built to be easy to ship and safe to change

The live application is supported by a development workflow that separates testing from production and makes frequent improvements practical.

  • Source controlVersion control, change history and deployment workflow.
  • CloudflareFast edge delivery, hosting and security controls.
  • StagingNew features are tested away from the live league before release.
  • Automated checksDeployment checks help catch regressions before changes are shipped.
  • Ongoing maintenanceReal weekly usage feeds directly into interface and workflow improvements.
The result

Less admin input. Much more useful output.

Sunday Night Sport now has one purpose-built platform for the weekly competition, its history and the organiser workflow behind it. The system can keep evolving without forcing the league into the shape of generic sports software.

  • One source of truth for weekly results and season history
  • Player-facing statistics generated from normal admin work
  • A focused match-night flow designed for phones
  • Safe staging and deployment for continued development
